The Cambridge Lower Secondary Programme is a framework for the educational success of students approximately 11 – 14 years old. BSFIS builds on the Primary Stage and helps students to develop skills in critical thinking and creative problem-solving. At this stage students develop a growing sense of independence therefore, our curriculum focuses on developing higher-order thinking skills – problem-solving, critical thinking, independent research, collaboration and presenting arguments.

Assist the development of academic, social, aesthetic, emotional, and physical skills.
Encourage students to become independent moving from dependent childhood to adolescence.
At BSFIS, we give special emphasis to Grade 8 which is an important year that prepares students for secondary school. Introductory sessions are conducted for the subjects like Accounting, Business Studies and Economics which are to be introduced in Grades 9 and 10 (IGCSE) so that students are well prepared for subject selection in the higher grades.
We have introduced the Macquarie University-designed ‘Big History’ project which takes on the epic journey of 13.8 billion years starting at the Big Bang and travelling through time to the future helping to discover the important links between past, current and future events.
Physical education helps in developing students’ competence and confidence. Indoor games like table tennis, chess, and badminton help improve physical fitness and reflexes. Chess enhances concentration, patience, and perseverance, as well as develops creativity, intuition, memory, and problem-solving skills. Outdoor games like basketball, cricket, and football help children build strength, focus, self-esteem, teamwork, and endurance.
Yoga Asanas, meditation, and breathing help improve a person’s mental well-being. Regular yoga practice creates mental clarity and calmness, increases body awareness, relieves stress patterns, relaxes the mind and sharpens concentration.
The study of Creative Arts develops emotional intelligence, confidence, resilience, discipline, commitment, communications skills, identity and belonging, creativity, problem-solving skills, and coordination.
Music stimulates the brain and develops language skills in children with its varied sounds, lyrics, and a large amount of vocabulary in a short amount of time.
Speech and drama improve public speaking skills, empower children and enable them to develop self-confidence, a creative imagination, empathy, and maturity in interpersonal skills.
These lead the learners to increase their ability to spontaneous speech without any preparation and make them speak out only the relevant information within the stipulated time.
They provide students with the opportunity to explore real-world topics and issues. Debates also engage students through self-reflection and encourage them to learn from their peers.
Dance teaches children about music, rhythm, and beat. Students also have a better understanding of spatial relationships and learn to think with both sides of their brains.
Using science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) as a core part of the curriculum allows students to create real-world applications for providing solutions.
PSHE helps students address their age-specific interests and concerns, builds awareness, and promotes compassionate and ethical conduct.
The co-curricular activities in Middle School are designed to be more structured and purposeful which helps students to pursue them formally in Secondary School.
The extracurricular activities aim to define an interdisciplinary approach, develop social skills, build team spirit, encourage healthy competitiveness, and instil a sense of responsibility and compassion.
